Potholing

The aspect of utility verification is crucial to engineers when applying new infrastructure: with right-of-ways being limited.  Data of existing utility owner’s facilities.  Can only be interpreted to such a degree when reviewing through as-builts, prints, and even utility marks at location of projects.

An engineer(s) can face a costly and problematic scenario.  When projects deviate from planned plans.  Due to utility owners facilities being inconclusive as to what is recorded.  Utility owners typically are under no obligation to the engineer to provide information.  Therefore leaving an engineer unable to obtain available and pertinent utility information.

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is a standard recognized by ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) CI/ASCE 38-02.  The ASCE standard makes it clear that SUE is a process, not a technology, and defines SUE as follows:

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE): A branch of engineering practice that involves managing certain risks associated with utility mapping at appropriate quality levels, utility coordination, utility relocation design and coordination, utility condition assessment, communication of utility data to concerned parties, utility relocation cost estimates, implementation of utility accommodation policies, and utility design.

Accurate Excavation is pleased to offer a new service to  Yuma and surrounding areas. We have purchased a   new system 4000 vacuum truck which is a state of the  artsoft dig underground utility locating system. This  system uses  air injection instead of the usual water or  hydrotype which creates less of a site mess and less of  a possibility of damaged utilities.

Some applications for this system Include:

- Underground utility location and verification

- Remote trenching and potholing ability for hard to access sites

- Cathodic protection inspections

- Support for directional boring which is also available from Accurate Excavation

- Manway and valve box cleaning and maintenance

- Mapping of existing utilities for future development in an area

- Applications limited by imagination only

This method of potholing is generally much faster, less

invasive and safer than the convential use of backhoes,

picks, and shovels which translates to cost savings for

our clients.
